This piece is based on a Dance Macabre by M. Moussorgskij titled "Songs and Dances of Death". This is the third scene. A drunk peasant on his way home meets the Grim Ripper that lures him into a fatal dance. Trepak is the name of a russian dance.

 2007 - Pastels on black Fabriano pastel paper. Each scene is 30*40 cm.

Without reading your description, I thought about some scenes from Tolstoy and Dostoevsky when I looked at this. It is such a strange scene; a man lying awake in the snow, and not really thinking about getting up and walking. Then I saw the Reaper's hand. Awesome.
