Cristina Marsi replies: "Thank you It is actually an old drawing and I hope my skills improved in the meantime. I still like the concept, but i guess i should redraw it and see if I can produce something less childish-looking " | |
| 26 Jan 2005 | Anonymous | Loading...It's nice, but not accurate to the movie Cristina Marsi replies: "And who says it has to be accurate to the movie? 1. The book is much older than a movie and when this picture was done the movie didnt exit yet. 2. It is much more fun to illustrate an idea you get in your mind when reading the book than just "copying" what is in mind of a movie director 3. This is not Fanquarter where a movie based picture should be. Thanks for stopping by and commenting though, although it would have been nicer to sign " | |
| 19 Oct 2005 | Erik Jensen | Loading...Looking at his clothes, Boromir's been doing a lot of travelling since he was described in Rivendell. But he still has his cloak from Lorien, and the horn of Gondor. This is one of my favourite scenes of the whole book, when Boromir redeems himself. And the funeral, of course. One of the arrows, the top one, seems rather deadly. How could he speak with an arrow in his throat? Or perhaps it's in his shoulder. Considering the time of the year (and the subject of the picture), the bareness of the tree is well and good, but the grass looks so lush and green. How come? The yellow objects in the grass, are they fallen leaves (again very much on subject to my mind)? When first I saw this, I thought you had stopped before putting a bloody arrow in his right hand. The last Pippin saw of Boromir was him plucking an arrow from his side, and the hand looks like that's what it just did. Sad and glorious. I like it. Cristina Marsi replies: "Thank you for visiting my gallery again It looks like you know Tolkien by heart But let me explain that when I paint I dont follow each line in book that closely. Usually I read something, get a general impression and much later, when most details have already disappeared or have been substituted by something from my own imagination I try to put it on paper or on canvas. I dont like to be too much influenced by original author, although I'm happy if I manage to convey general feeling. So don't expect a line-by-line faithful illustration. Besides this picture is very old, I think it was here when I first opened my gallery. Although I still like the general setting, there are so many fails in it that I really should to change it with a new one. Problem is I have already so many things that fight to get out of the pencil, that I don't feel like going back to old subjects. I know I should however Hopefully in new one I'll manage to satisfy you more " | |
