SciFi and Fantasy Art Coventina by Cristina Marsi

Coventina was a British Goddess: although worshipped during Roman occupation she is of Celtic origin. She is sometimes pictured as a water nimph, pouring water from a vessel. What mostly interested me in this picture is the transparency effect in the water.

Update: Jan 19th, 2006.  This is part of a project in which I'm planning to slowly substitute my old and quite naiv pictures with new ones. The main concept and composition will not change, however I hope the result will be more pleasant to the viewer, since my painting skills have hopefully improved. The old transparency effect has now developed in a more abstract pattern. Enjoy!

Pastels on ash grey Ingres paper.  24*32cm.

I am amazed by this picture. I think it represents the celtic river goddess perfectly.

Thankyou. I love the continuity of the nymph qualities and the flow of the water, as if one. All is as it should be.

It reminds me of a tarot card... "The Star", I believe, from the Universal deck. I like muchly.

:-) Cristina Marsi replies: "Thank you, never actually thought of tarots, but i guess it might be a decent subject for it. Only... picture is sooo old, I really need to redo it if not remove 12"

I love the water effect Cristina, you are soo good at it.

:-) Cristina Marsi replies: "I will save this comment since it fits new upload too 2 But original is pretty old and although i was already working on rendering water, paper, pencils and scanning don't do it any justice: it is almost impossible to see it. Anyway new picture is on its way 12"

I really like how you did the water. The shading on the figure is amazing too. I think what you did with the lighting/color really makes the picture stand out. Nicely done.

:-) Cristina Marsi replies: "Thank you very much, This one is a remake of a very old and pretty naiv picture. I tried to give it a fantastic/unreal feeling while keeping the goddess as human as possible. I'm happy you like it, this means my skills have improved 2"

I think this piece is standing out. I really enjoy the colors you used here: sort of like entering in one of your dreams. Delightful!
