Beneath a gibbous moon crawl and slither the whispering spawn of the Ur-goth, feasting upon roots of black trees grown in soil infested with the salts and essences of the dead and the sleeping. Pale, sickly light illuminates their incessant gnawing, mindlessly blind to all but the unsound roots. Whipped by cold, uncaring winds, the branches grasp greedily to pull that hateful moon down, to let the spawn devour it and carry on their task in lightless silence. There is no reason here, only madness, below the gibbous moon of Ur-goth.

Curious to find this gloomy place? Then go visit Leowon's area, in Nannymud of course!

Oh wow! the lighting on the water is great, and the trees look so cool, i like the thingy floating in the water (is it a bed?) and the moon looks so neat!

:-) Cristina Marsi replies: "Thank you 2 Yup the floating thingie is actually a bed... Hmmmm, hard to explain what it is doing there... Consider it part of the assignment 2"

The comissioner of this work, I'm pleased to see how it turned out! The colouring especially, is great, and the moon... As for the reason the bed is there, you'll have to ask me: telnet mud.lysator.liu.se 2000, look for Leowon. ;-)

Looks more like a full moon than a gibbous moon. Perhaps the artist should do a little research and find out what a gibbous moon actually is.

:-) Cristina Marsi replies: "Thank you for the astronomical clarification. I suspected a full moon would not respect the description entirely, but I took the licence to give it its full circularity and represent that "gibbous" as "bumped, full of protuberances".Hey, an artist has the right to interpret things, hasn't he? And anyway the commissioner took no objection to it, on the contrary! 12"

Reminds me of that poem in the Tolkien Reader, I think it's called 'Mewlips,' the one about the swamp that eats people.

:-) Cristina Marsi replies: "I really have no idea, it was a commissioned piece. Should ask the author if he got influenced from that poem 2"

Reminds me of a scene from one of the H P Lovecraft stories where unmentionable Old Ones dance beneath a gibbous moon to eldritch pipings. I think the person who commissioned this probably had the Lovecraft mythos in mind.
